Magnets (You can dismantle cheap fridge magnets or buy little magnets from the store for this.) 1 stick for each kid. 1 string for each kid. A box of paper clips

Make a fishing rod: Tie one end of the string to the magnet. Tie the other end of the string to the stick.

Make the fish: Print out these fish pictures. Cut out the fish. Attach a paperclip to the mouth of each fish.

Caution: Observe the kids throughout. Do not let them put the magnets or the paperclips in their mouth. Keep the game out of reach after playing.

1. Count the fish in the pool and write it down.

2. 1 kid (the counter) counts to 20

3. Another kid (the fisherman) uses the fishing rod to catch the fish.

4. At the count of 20 stop.

5. Have them count the fish the fisherman has caught.

6. Have them count the fish left in the pool.

7. Ask them these questions How many fish were there in the pool? How many fish did the fisherman catch? How many fish were left?

8. Play the game again so that the kids learn to subtract.
